Our friends at Pixel Painters are offering Harbor Network churches some free graphic design help. And we're thrilled! Hear it from them in their own words: "We’ve worked with churches in Harbor Network for a long time on design projects. From all across the United States we’ve created sermon series, event graphics, social media graphics and hundreds more… Harbor Network is close to our hearts, and the mission to launch, lead, and multiply thriving churches is something we truly feel called to as well. We would love to help you take your graphic designs to the next level! PixelPainters.co is a business I started four years ago, but it’s more of a ministry for me. As I am not pulling profit out of the business and I’m not trying to just grow financially as large as I can. I really view this as a ministry to the local church. As a pastor’s kid, and a gospel centered ministry founder myself, I just want to be a blessing to you in growing the kingdom." Check out their work and click the button below to get started with your free project. |

The school year is ending and summer break is upon us. Every parent for themselves! |

"Why is it so much easier to be unkind when you can't see the person? Herein, I think, lies the answer: when we speak unkindly to someone's face, we can see hurt. We can see pain. But our devices take that connection, that physical connection, and break it off... We have lost the ability to be ashamed of ourselves for these comments, and I think that in this, we are losing the ability to communicate with each other as a whole." A good word. |

There are lots of reasons to leave Twitter, but threads like this are why I stay. |

W. David O. Taylor has put together a long and helpful list of prayers for a violent world. In his own words, "In the psalms there is no faithful prayer that trivializes evil, no genuine faith that ignores the destructive and self-destructive powers of sin, and no true witness that turns a blind eye to the violence of our world. And it is for this reason that we turn to the psalms for guidance in times such as this, for they show us what we can, and indeed should, be praying in a violent world. But a question remains: How exactly do we pray in the aftermath of violence? What words should we put on our lips? What can the whole people of God say “amen” to and what might only one of us be able to say amen to in good conscience? These questions are, of course, far from easy to answer, but over the past couple of years I have attempted to give language to such matters and I have included here a number of those prayers, in the hope that they might prove useful, and perhaps comforting, to people who face the terrors and traumas of violent activities on a regular basis. May the Lord, in his mercy, hear our prayers." |

Jerry over here slinging truth…and it stings a little. “All dads dress in the style of their last good year of their life.” |

By now this Twitter survey will have concluded, but I'm still curious to know what you think. How would you respond to this survey? Hit reply and let me know. If you think they actually matter, I'd love to hear why. It seems like the “it never matters” team is going to pull a decisive victory in this poll. :) |

This is a profound and incredibly helpful insight. |

Many of you will unplug your social media over the summer. I think this is a good and wise practice for loads of folks. If you haven't considered quitting social media for the summer, maybe you should. In this video, Cal Newport talks about the perks of living without social media. Cal lists four reasons why avoiding social media will benefit your life. He explains how you can #EmbraceBoredom. He then explains how you can substitute high quality leisure (like exercise and reading) for the infinite scroll. Avoiding social media also lowers your sense of self importance. And finally, you'll have more privacy when you shut it down. Perks indeed. |

This is what happens when you wake up and think to yourself, “Today is a good day to have a great day!” It is also what happens at our Harbor Network Lead Pastors & Wives' Retreats when an excessive amount of peer-pressure is combined with unbridled self-expression and a general lack of concern for indignity on the dance floor. One thing I love about Harbor Network is that it is a place where you can let your own Elaine Benes dance moves shine. |
