Chris & Krystal Jones

Chris & Krystal planted Redeemer Community Church in Bloomington, IN in 2012 after doing parachurch campus ministry for 14 years.  They have been married for 23 years and have three children: Seth (21), Leah (19), and Levi (15).  Their ministry experience, family life, and the fact that they became Christians during their college years have impressed upon them the importance of striving to partner with the Spirit in making whole disciples.

cohort description

We will focus our time at first on thinking through what it means to make whole disciples and help each participant think through how they are going to define what discipleship is and what a disciple is for their church or ministry context.

In the following weeks, we’ll work through various aspects of church life and how they can serve the goal of making whole disciples.  How do we cultivate a gospel culture that invites and allows space for people to grow on the Spirit’s timeline?  How do our Sunday gatherings and other ministries of the church work together toward that goal?  How do we think through leadership development and how our church will equip the saints for the work of ministry (Eph. 4:12), so that whole disciples are being developed to use their gifts for Christ’s glory?  How do we move beyond overly focusing on building up the mind only, to helping people learn to be whole disciples abiding with Jesus and loving him with all their heart, soul, mind and strength?  How can mercy ministry be a tool toward making whole disciples?  These are several of the areas we’ll try to dig deeper into.

One idea we have is to encourage participants to work on a discipleship plan for their specific ministry or church as a practical application to all we talk through and discuss together.

The hope is…

This cohort will help you think through and develop an intentional localized approach to making whole disciples that are growing to more and more love the Lord with all their heart, soul, mind and strength, and to love their neighbors as themselves.

The reality is that often in our churches much of our discipleship is aimed at loving God with all our minds, but the Lord desires for us to be and to make whole disciples.
